Thredbo in Summer





We were offered a stay at a friend's lodge, but the only time we could get away was out of season. My husband and son were keen (any excuse to get out of school) but I wondered what on earth we would do all day, if not skiing?




The season had just finished, so when we arrived for a long weekend, there was still plenty of snow up the top. We grabbed a chair lift and went to build a snowman. There are summer lift passes - we used the Entertainment Book for a discount on the all day pass, as the pool was closed for renovations (in the gap between the close of the ski season and the start of the mountain biking season). The All Mountain Pass is an excellent deal otherwise, as the kids have the waterslide as the top of their list of things to do in Thredbo, and Mission Inflatable, if you're lucky enough to time it right.






Up the top, the kids played in the snow, and spent much of the time walking to the summit, to slide down.








The scenery is beautiful, with the melting snow creating waterfalls and the rivers appearing.














The next day we spent an hour on the bobsled which had us all squealing with glee. The All Mountain pass includes some rides on the bobsled, or you can buy them as singles or in bulk. 










The shops in the Village are open in the mornings and for lunch, and I was surprised how many people we met on the trails. 








You can hire mountain bikes if you're energetic, or there's tennis and golf.









For us it was mainly board games in between excursions to the snow, but I really enjoyed the weekend, and was amazed how fresh and new somewhere so familiar can become with the season change.

So for a weekend of hiking, bike riding and frivolity, Thredbo offers fun, without the high costs of the winter sport.

    Thredbo is a great place in summer. Unlike the other ski resorts Thredbo runs activities and festivals right through the year. We often go there outside the ski season and there is always lots to do. I have just posted a summer guide if you are interested.

    Sounds like a really nice time of year to go - I like the sound of quietly enjoying the snow without the crowds and watching the gushing waterfalls as it all melts away.

    How surprising! I never really think of Thredbo if it's not Winter!! Will definitely have to change that. :)

    I ski so know the area well in winter, but had to go to a party in summer there. I had difficulty not seeing the snow, though it was interesting.

    Thredbo is lovely any time of the year. I was bridesmaid for a friend who was married on top of the mountain in the warmer months - it was magical :-)

    Sorry for visiting so late! I'm not big on skiing, so visiting a ski resort off season and having the slope all to my kids to slide down all day totally appeals to me! Actually anything with snow appeals to us Singaporeans. #TravelTuesday
