Australians flood to Phuket each year for the beaches, the food and the island hopping, and myriad of other resort holiday activities. We flew directly in from Singapore, a short flight of just over an hour, or you can take the 4 hour bus ride from Phuket, and wound up in Krabi, the sleepy town with a village feel that offered all that we liked in Phuket without the crowds.
If you hire a long boat, the beaches and islands are stunning, and closer than the day trips we did off Phuket on a previous trip.
Krabi is the go to destination for climbers because of the towering cliffs at Railay, which contribute to the stunning scenery both in and out of the water.
There is a myriad of accommodation, from the 5 star luxury and family friendly resorts, to the backpacking hostels.
There are temples and treks and plenty of tourist attractions, or just hit the beach with a book and feast on the local food in hawker style dining districts.
So if you're after an easy beachside alternative to Phuket, look no further. All the great things about Thailand without the hassle.

I don't really like Phuket, it is far too touristy for me, Krabi is nice though. Thanks for linking up to #wednesdaywanderlust - please enjoy the break but feel free to join in each week on social media
ReplyDeleteWe have never been to Phuket - partly because D doesn't like 'popular' places but Krabi sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteI should do both Krabi and Phuket in one visit. I always wanted to visit Phuket, but after the tsunami I put that thought to rest for a while.
ReplyDeleteI have been contemplating Krab for our annual family holiday for the past couple of years. Once again it's on the short list for next year.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to Thailand, but we are hoping to travel more next year through Asia. Krabi looks like a fantastic destination!
ReplyDeleteKrabi looks like a beautiful place to visit, Lydia. I haven't been to Thailand - Phuket and similar destinations don't interest me, but Krabi is enticing :-)
ReplyDeleteI do like Krabi more than Phuket, it's more laidback and relaxed. Phuket is probably a destination I would've enjoyed (which I did) when I was younger. :p
ReplyDeleteI love it when their are interesting places near-ish! I hope we get to go there one day!
ReplyDeleteGood stuff to know! Thanks for linking up with Travel Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteYou seem to be having a helluva time! Thanks for sharing at Practical Mondays!
ReplyDeleteKrabi gets absolutely slammed in the dry season. Railay beach is one of the most beautiful beaches I've been to, and I lived in Thailand so I've been to many! Try to visit off peak :)

You're confirmed what I already guessed about the essential difference between Phuket and Krabi so thanks for that! Krabi sounds much more like my kind of place. #MondayEscapes
ReplyDeleteHey hey hey... completely agree with you!!!! I felt the same during my visit to Krabi... #MondayEscapes
ReplyDeleteOne of my favourite parts of Thailand is Krabi. I spent a long week there lazing on Railay beach. I'm not a big fan of Phuket! It was far too busy for me. Thanks for bringing back good memories, and linking up with #MondayEscapes
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your look back at your trip to Krabi. Lovely mural, too.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully captured!
ReplyDeleteI've been to Bangkok and Phuket, sadly not Krabi. Nice mural find. thanks for participating in Monday Murals
