This is not the cheap option, but as it was possibly our last family holiday, we lashed out. We had been looking at bareboating but decided it was too expensive and two of the kids would probably not like it, and drive us nuts in the confined space.
We took a 4 bedroom apartment instead which proved ample room for everyone! The master bedroom had a glorious view.
The apartment was huge and there were three balconies, all with glorious views. An evening drink and sunset, or my morning coffee were the highlights of the day on the deck chair.
The apartment also had a large lounge room with both indoor and outdoor dining options. The Whitsundays is very expensive for food options so the ability to self cater, and enjoy in room dining balanced out the cost of the boat trips, while not lessening the holiday feel.
Special mention for one of the largest bathrooms I've ever seen with a spa bath that seemed in constant use between three of us at the end of each day...
While the resort has a main pool, which my daughter loved, we also had our own lap pool which is great for those with little kids that still need sleep. There is also a second resort pool for adults only, but alas, we didn't get there...
The location is on the boardwalk so you can walk to the marina for dinner, and there's a small cafe just out the front in the park. While it is a short drive to Airlie, Cannonvale is a peaceful and pretty spot to be based, and you're away from the traffic of the main strip.

We self catered but the resort restaurant has now opened for breakfast I believe, which can also make that holiday vibe even more indulgent.
Note it's more resort living than a resort with activities, though we were busy enough out on boats or daytrips for it not to matter. There is a well equiped gym.
Mirage Whitsundays is roughly 20-30 mins from Proserpine Airport.
If you're wanting space and stunning views, this is a great base for your family holiday in Airlie Beach or to explore the Whitsundays.

ReplyDeleteThat looks so beautiful. I lived in Queensland for nearly a year but never made it to the Whitsundays, looks like I need to return. #KCACOLS
ReplyDeleteIt sounds amazing! I don't mind the self catered option either, sometimes it's just so much easier than getting everyone ready and out the door. Plus you can tell the kids that it's your holiday from cooking and get them to chip in ;)

ReplyDeleteIf it comes with that cockatoo bird I'll take it! (joking) Looks lovely. *Sigh* Australia and it's outer islands are so far from the Eastern USA, hope to get there someday. #TheWeeklyPostcard

ReplyDeleteOh wow, it looks like paradise! I love the look of your apartment, the views are stunning and how lovely to have your own lap pool. Good to know that eating out is expensive and that a self catering property is a good idea.

This looks deluxe. I really like nice hotel rooms or apartments while on vacation. Especially when you have a handy location and nice amenties.
