One of the delights of our day trip to Tallinn was discovering the Children's Literature Centre. We were heading to the city gates to return to the ship when I noticed a little troll peeking out the window. So we decided to investigate.
Inside is a series of enchanting rooms to inspire imaginative play or history behind children's authors and their characters. While we didn't know most of the references and couldn't read the signs, it was no impediment to the joy this library inspires.
Both my daughter and I explored with grins growing bigger with each new surprise.
I would like to apologise to the children's birthday party which we intruded on, thinking it was a story time and we could just slink round the outside of, finding out only after the fact we'd been stupid, ill-mannered tourists. Opps. But thank you for kindly ignoring us.
There are exhibitions of illustrations (for us a Christmas one, so I was familliar with the Dickens stories that inspired some of them), play areas as well as books.
If you have the time, this is well worth visiting, with or without children. It is a charming space that will delight anyone with fond memories of magical childhood stories.
