A friend had recommended we visit the Holmenkollen Ski Jump while in Oslo, as did the guide book but we were pushed for time so I wasn't sure it was high enough on the list to make it out there. Fortunately my FOMO kicked in and I tore off without the family hoping I made it there before closing.
An easy train ride from Central (about 40 minutes) and the sun was setting when I arrived, so I ran up the hill (that is not advised). I made it about 25 minutes before closing, so tore through the museum, not really doing it justice. Perhaps plan your trip better to allow more time as the Ski Museum covers more than just skiing.
You catch a lift up to the tower and then bask in the glorious views. Not just of the ski jump itself but there's a Stave Church and Oslo Fjord. Sunset is a really beautiful experience from the viewing platform.
I had the Oslo Pass that day so the train, museum and tower were all included.
What I did wrong? I could have lured the family if I'd realised kids were skiing below so we could have made a day of it, and there's apparently a zipline that runs down the jump, so you get the experience (sort of) of taking the jump!! I would have loved to have done that, and my teens would definitely have been eager to join in.
There is a reason people tell you to go out to the Ski Jump when in Oslo, and maybe you should listen to them and plan it properly.

Same. I think it's a long way off for us tho...BUT maybe chasing Orcas in NZ...
DeleteI have never been doing, but have been in a ski lift that was terrifying as I don't like heights #globalblogging@_karendennis
ReplyDeleteWhat an unusual experience that visit must have been. The ski lift is amazing! I'm sure your teens would have enjoyed ziplining. As for me, I'd be content to watch.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a ski jump or ski lift. Perhaps it's time to visit one.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my post about Malta. I agree. Photos never do justice of places we have visited. Stay safe and take care.
Thank you for the cyber tour. I may not be able to visit this place in person, but thanks for the tour.

DeleteThe views from up there look amazing! I've been to Oslo but not visited Holmenkollen. I'd love to actually try ski-jumping some time, it seems fun. Thanks so much for linking up with #KCACOLS, hope you come back again next time! x
ReplyDeleteSome lovely and unusual images! What fantastic views.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that you took the time to share your world at 'My Corner of the World' this week! Thanks!
Th Holmenkollen ski jump is very impressive. I can't imagine how brave the people who ski jump off of it are. When I was there years ago, the run out area seemed so far away.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful views! Hopefully you'll be back again one day to enjoy the experience properly. # WanderfulWednesday
ReplyDeleteI so wanted to go here when I visited Oslo but I ran out of time! #CulturedKids
ReplyDeleteGorgeous views! I work for a travel agency that does Nordic travel and we always recommend people visit the ski jump and museum :) But I've totally had those days too running into places hoping to get my chance to see them. You caught the sunset though, beautiful!
