Escape the City - Biennale of Sydney on Cockatoo Island






Until the 6th of September you have have a wonderful escape from the COVID travel ban, and feel the freedom of a ferry ride over to Cockatoo Island to immerse yourself in Convict ruins and art, all with the stunning backdrop of Sydney Harbour.














The exhibition, Nirin, is free and non ticketed but do remain distanced from other people and bring a mask for the ferry (Ferry tickets as normal). There is plenty of sanitiser around, and the cafes are Covidsafe (with check ins).


Mary's on the Edge is open Thursday-Sunday and there are two other Cafe's open during the rest of the week.



For us the whole trip took four hours (due to other commitments) but we felt invigorated and refreshed. I felt happy in a way that I've been missing.  Without rushing, you should allow at least 6 hours.




So if COVID blues are getting you down, get out and enjoy our beautiful city again!

    Oh that looks good. I've got the week off and should totally make the effort to go before it finishes! Especially as I haven't actually been to Cockatoo Island!

    I haven't been to Cockatoo Island and if I lived near Sydney I'd definitely go there! What an amazing looking place :). #lifethisweek

    I used to go across here occasionally just because...and loved doing so during biennale. There's something about the place that makes you feel as though you're a million miles away. So much history.

    I haven't been to Cockatoo Island for years. I loved the photos. I haven't ventured into the city since the initial lock down. I used to go in at least once a month.

    I went ages ago and found the history of the place amazing. That is was still a working place until recently. The trip by ferry is one of the joys isn't it? Seeing Sydney from angle a ferry takes shows all the different places not seen by road.
