While Hobart has many fine restaurants, some are a destination in themselves.

1. Frogmore Creek Cellar Door & Restaurant is the cellar door about 20 minutes from Hobart in Cambridge. The venue is in the vineyard, with an enchanting view. The presentation of the dishes caused much of our group to exclaim delight as each meal appeared at the table. There's a shop with quirky gifts and chairs outside for drinks in the sunshine. Bookings essential.

2. Salamanca Markets While there are plenty of food trucks there, it's worth noting there's an Oyster truck freshly shucking oysters as ordered. Saturday 8.30-3pm.

3. Farm Gate Market. This market is where you want to stock up food for your holiday house! The range of produce is broad and desserts are tempting. There is a Sri Lankan stall with vegetables wrapped in roti and this takeaway treat is divine! Definitely seek out for a snack or grab a couple for a meal. Sundays 8.30 - 1pm. And don't go early, no one can trade until the bell rings!

4. Hobart Brewing Co. Easy takeaway options from food trucks (the spicy noodles are good). Check the website for live music schedule. Easy walk from town (just round the corner from Mac 1). Great way to spend a relaxed evening as the sun goes down or lazy afternoon with friends.

5. Mona Lawns While the restaurants are fabulous and offer a fully immersive experience with music and art, sometimes you don't have the time or the money, but lunch on the lawns offers great food and live music in the sunshine. Grab beanbag if the tables are gone and just relax. There's beer, wine and cocktails too. Check times on the website for what's on, usually Thursday - Monday.

ReplyDeleteGreat places that you are sharing. I'm not really adventurous when it comes to food, though.
