Tyama: A deeper sense of knowing at the Melbourne Museum. A multisensory excursion

Tyama is an immersive telling of how to view the world. Structured around the First Peoples knowledge and storytelling, you move though a blended physical and digital space which aims to reconnect you to nature.   And I literally mean you move as physical action is required to bring the digital world alive.

The 360 responsive projections are extraordinary, and the soundscapes make the experience overwhelmingly beautiful.

I went early and was lucky enough to share the space with only 5 other people. When we came out, there were a lot in the queue so I imagine their sense of serenity may not be the same.

It's an exquisite mix of art and understanding, learning and enjoyment.

And it will make you think a little more about how we and the other creatures interact with the world.

Open daily from 9-5, tickets are available here.

I went down to Melbourne for some art exhibitions and Tyama fitted in with that mission, as at times,  it's very like the works of Team Lab, the moth room in particular, and you need to make sure you stay to the end in that one for the real beauty to occur.

The Museum webpage explains it perfectly: "Tyama (CHAH-MUH) is the Keerray Woorroong language verb ‘to know’. It is about knowing, not just with our minds, but with our whole body. By listening closely with all our senses, we can embody these learnings and understand our place in the world."
