Street art in Venice (swear words in photo warning)

There are a lot of things that come to mind when one thinks of Venice, but street art isn't one of them.

Known as La Serenissima, 'very serene', for it's stable and successful  government (for the curious, more here), and with it's beautiful historic buildings, not to be damaged, there's not a lot of opportunity to place the art - but there is a surprising amount of it if you look.

I got up early and went looking for the Banksy, unbeknownst to me it was hidden. They've removed it (I"ve no idea how) and are displaying it for the Biennale on a boat on the Grand Canal for the Biennale as it was getting damaged by the elements.

Alas this is what I saw:

However, it wasn't a waste. On my way there, I suddenly discovered a lot of little treats.

It reveals the modern city - today's issues and concerns in this fairytale landscape - Venice is not a historic theme park but a vibrant city!

There is no wasted time walking in Venice. It is pure delight, no matter what you are looking for, or where you look!

I missed the Banksy but I did see the very famous Invader.

Practicalities:
Just walk everywhere and look up, down and all around!

  4. You certainly saw some cool stuff! I wonder what Banksy would think of his piece being displayed in the Biennale.
