Detour - Lunch in Bundeena

If you want to escape the city, jump in the car for a picturesque drive through the National Park (or alternatively, drive to Cronulla and catch the ferry). After a twenty minute scenic drive through the Royal National Park, you will arrive at the tiny village centre of Bundeena.

If you haven't packed a picnic, there's an IGA and some little cafes. They're filled to capacity throughout the day, so be patient or grab takeaway.

There's a playground and BBQ but you'll need to arrive early to grab prime position.

The beach wasn't very crowded when we went, and the water is calm and quite shallow, so good for those with little kids. It isn't patrolled so you must be able to swim and supervise children at all times.

For an easy escape from the city for a few hours, Bundeena makes for a pleasant, easy daytrip.

  1. Bundeena looks gorgeous! I lived in Sydney for many years, but never got down there for a visit. Might have to put it on the list for our next Sydney trip :-)

  3. Thank you for linking up on Travel Tuesday. I've never heard of Bundeena before. As far as tourists are concerned, the only Sydney beach that comes to mind is probably Bondi Beach? But I don't remember Bondi being as kids-friendly.

  4. This looks like it's worlds away from the city! I'd love to visit, what would be a good way to get there from the North shore? I have a niece and nephew who'd love that play area....
