The Folly of Parc Mon-Repos

Easily accessible between the old town and the funky modern Flon district of Lausanne, lies the peaceful green oasis of Parc Mon-Repos. Built around the charming 18th century villa where Voltaire stayed while in Lausanne, and later became the residence of Pierre de Coubertin. On the grounds are still the stables and aviaries.

There's a fun playground for little kids, but the highlight is the folly. Classic examples of the fashion of formal 18th century gardens, the Neo-Gothic temple of love is eclipsed by the 'castle ruins' and waterfall.

There's also an indoor pool if you really need a break (or a bribe for the kids).

It's a very quick detour that adds little time to your trip up and down the train line.

Even the high school is impressive the non European!

If the kids are growing tired of sight seeing, this is a charming place for a break, while still exploring a little piece of history.

Practicalities:

Take Metro to Ours, exit the station and walk either left or right and take the first street or laneway that takes you behind the station. Takes 1 minute to walk to the park.

  10. I love those old garden follies! A favourite of ours, closer to us, is Scotney Castle, where they've kept the ruins of an actual old castle as an unusually extravagant folly 😊 x #KCACOLS

  14. Hi Karen,

The 'high school' is in fact a federal court (Tribunal Federal).

    Cheers from Lausanne
