City Park - a true People's Park

I went to Lauceston for a funeral, and had a brief 20 hours there. Not one to waste an opportunity, I set out to explore the city on arrival. I stumbled across the beautiful City Park just after 4pm. Alas it meant I missed seeing the Japanese Macaques (Snow Monkeys) which live there. As the little girl informed me 'They've been packed away". Note to self, do research prior to arrival to optimise time available before closing time...as things seemed to close early, even shops and museums.

The John Hart Conservatory closed just as I turned up. All I could do was peek in the windows. A similar design to that in Fitzroy Gardens, which I later discovered it was modelled on.

I had to be content with the majestic trees and magnicent display of annuals. And as the temperature dropped with the disappearing sun, I felt that joy of autumn as I strolled around the greenery.

The Children's Jubilee fountain was gifted to the children of Launceston as part of the celebrations of Queen Victoria's 1887 Golden Jubilee.

There is a lot more to explore in a fairly compact space. So allow some time to really soak it all on. It's a ramble through history as well as nature.

I hope to return to Launceston to give it the attention it deserves. It's a truly delightful city, easily accessible on foot.

Beauty surrounds us, but usually we need to be walking in a garden to know it.  Rumi

  1. Hi Lydia!

You have a nice collection of chrysanthemums. I think the colors are wonderful! There are so many different chrysate themes, but I like them all.

    Thank you for visiting me!

    Best regards

    Anne

  2. This garden is beautiful! One of our favorite things to do is was through a botanic garden. It's so peaceful and that is exactly how your pictures made me feel!
