Sydney Tower - an insider tip

The Sydney Tower Eye is what us old locals would call Centrepoint tower even though it's been Westfield for decades. It is that iconic tower in the Sydney skyline, that marks an outline as Sydney. The 'Eye' is the viewing platform floor. Tickets are here for $28.

Recently we had friends from Greece for lunch at the house but because I don't think you travel halfway around the world to sit in a backyard in the suburbs, once everyone else left, we zipped into the city for some 'sightseeing' at Bar 83. I had been looking at availability throughout the day and booked us a table en route. While you can book on arrival, it's best to avoid disappointment.

There is a minimum spend of $30 per person but for that money, you get a cocktail or drinks and a snack. You must be over 18 so not one for the kids. However, the views are the same spectacular look out the Heads and of the city.

If you can swing it, go at sunset. It is magnificent. We had a cloudy day so we arrived at 4, as the sky was never going to light up for us.

The smile on my friends faces as they walked in and saw the view was worth it. We ordered and I sent them to wander around the room to see all the views. Then we just relaxed, chatting and taking in the Harbour Bridge from our comfy chairs.

This is the best kind of sight seeing! Costs more or less the same but you get so much more!

  4. I've never been to Sydney, but it looks spectacular, especially from that height! I laughed about sitting in someone's backyard in the suburbs. I get it, we live near NYC and when people visit, it's nice to have a home cooked meal, but everyone really wants to see the sights.

  5. That is a great view - 30 years in Australia and I still have spent almost no time in Sydney. Maybe I should!

  6. Lydia, what a magnificent view. Just stunning and I wasn't even in the room. That's how spectacular your photos were. And you certainly have given us a fine choice of drinks for T, also. Thank you for sharing these fabulous photos and drinks with us for T this Tuesday.

  7. Viewing towers like this one are neat — I’ve been to several, including Toronto and Seattle. I recently read that many of the sky-high restaurants that were closed for a while are beginning to reopen in “high places.” This would be a good one to visit.

  8. Sadly I most probably won't travel to Sydney anytime soon. We had booked a trip to Australia in 2020, but we all know why that didn't work out. Maybe one day - and then I will make sure to get up here.

  11. I've never been to Australia (and not likely to due to my age) so it's great to do some arm chair traveling.
    Great photos and great views.
    Thanks.
    Happy belated T-Day,
    Lisca
