A group of 18 of us met at the Palm Beach Ferry wharf for a day trip to Patonga for lunch. The ferry leaves at 11, $15 return for adults and $10 for children, and takes about half an hour to Patonga (then heads on to Cottage Point and Bobbin Head, if you wish to extend your adventure). So it's perfect timing for lunch. There is a 3pm or 4.15 pm return. Full timetable here.
Patonga is a quiet bay, the most southerly beach on the Central Coast. You can take a bush walk over to Pearl Beach for the more energetic.
We arrived just in time to see the Pelican feeding and stroll up the beach for an hour before heading into the Patonga Beach Hotel where I'd booked our table. While the kids had burgers and nachos, we shared a generous seafood platter and ice cold Asahi's. A perfect seaside feast.
Some of the kids went swimming in the bay after lunch before the 3pm ferry arrived to take us home.
I noted another option for our return visit. There's a cricket pitch next door to the little take away cafe, Patonga Beach Seafoods, that offers free use of their cricket set (with drivers license), so we may return for a cricket match and some takeaway fish and chips! It's an indication of a successful day when you're already planning your return visit!
Sometimes you don't need to spend much to feel like you're on a holiday!
