We'd spent six days sightseeing, and now it was time for some R&R. I'd booked two nights at the Angsana Lang Co, where the intention was to not leave the resort and just play in the pool and on the sand. The drive from Hue took an hour, and we arrived at the resort in what felt like the middle of nowhere.
The opulence was overwhelming. The building is big and modern, adorned with art in an attempt to remind travellers they're in Vietnam. Lanterns, water puppets and scenic photographs greet your arrival.
The grounds of the resort have ping pong and table soccer, and the pool is quite often the place for zorbing (aqua ball) or aqua aerobics. (You need to book but all free). The pool also has massage jets and a current pool that was fun to float down, racing the kids. The pool staff were attentive with water, and had sunscreen if you needed it. Plenty of lounges and umbrellas as the sun made things very hot!
The Sports Centre is fantastic. While there is a cost with the quad biking, wake boarding and the jet skis, the bungy trampoline, canoes, windsurfs and archery are all free. I had a go at the local basket boat - and a staff member came with me. I think I made him uncomfortable by insisting on paddling the two of us, rather than just going for a ride (We Australian females can be so brash by other standards, but I wasn't going to miss out giving it a go!!). We packed in as many free activities as we could in the two days (plus a few of the charged ones), and the kids were certainly disappointed when it was time to move on.
There's also tennis and golf, and a slack rope for those with circus skills.
The beach that fronts the resort is huge and beautiful, and very, very long. Alas the sand is very hot and other than for water sports, I couldn't coax the kids away from the pools.
There are a number of restaurants, and you can also dine in the adjoining Banyan Tree resort, There is a boat that will take you over, through a canal that links the resorts. Otherwise, it's really only a few minutes away on foot, either up the beach or a stepping stone pathway. Combined they give you access to 8 restaurants. Our room had a huge dining table and we dined in one night for a change.
While they offer plenty of tours to both Hue and My Son, and there's a shuttle to Hoi An for shopping, for us it was better to make the most of the resort and then move on to explore. There is also a kids club, that appears well set up. My youngest only went there to make cookies, and the staff were very friendly and chatty to my daughter.
If your budget will allow, it's worth booking in a few days of relaxation at the Angsana as you travel down the coast of Vietnam.

You can fly into Danang or Hue, depending on which way you are travelling along the coast. Danang is the main hub airport for Central Vietnam.
I really like Vietnam and we are hoping to get back there this year, work permitting
ReplyDeleteI am reading this brimming with envy! I would love to go and stay in a place like this right now. I salute you for taking your children to far flung destinations. You are both gaining so much, and your children are experiencing fantastic cultures. Thanks so much for linking up at #fortheloveofBLOG. Claire x
ReplyDeleteKids love to travel - don't let anyone tell you otherwise!! (They grumble in the heat and temples until a certain age but there's always sites they love too - you just have to make sure you alternate them)
DeleteThat beach and pool look amazing! So many fun activities.
DeleteGreat to have so many free activities on offer. That beach looks wonderful too. Vietnam is somewhere I'm very keen to take my family to. #TheWeeklyPostcard

Great timing reading this on #mondayescapes as I'm just in the finalising stages of planning a trip to Vietnam next month and still haven't booked anywhere for central VN. I'm going to take a look at the website now, thanks!
ReplyDeleteWhat an idyllic spot to relax in after sightseeing. The pool on your loft roof looks amazing. I agree that if you spend a reasonable amount of money and there are lots of activities included in the price this type of resort can be great value with kids. Thanks for linking with us on #MondayEscapes and I hope you can make it again next time!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like my kind of vacation! We just came back from a similar holiday in Phuket and enjoyed it so much! Vietnam sounds really exotic - and so close to Singapore. I've been wanting to go to Da Nang and this looks close enough. #MondayEscapes
ReplyDeleteWhat a superb place to stay and play Lydia. Makes me want to book a ticket to Vietnam right now :)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about just relaxing in a place and doing your sightseeing before or after. Some resorts and hotels are so lovely you don't want to do anything else but enjoy your surrounds.
ReplyDeleteThat's incredible, not what one usually thinks of when you think about Vietnam. I love the idea of a boat taking you from resort to resort.
ReplyDeleteWow; that looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteWow, that looks and sounds like an amazing resort. We'd love to take our son to Vietnam in the future and a place like this would be ideal for some R&R after exploring. Thanks for linking up to #wanderlustkids on BattleMum last month.
